Hafod
Thomas Johnes' Hafod estate is famous for his trailblazing work in planting upland forests and landscape design in the years 1780-1813. He is recognised historically as the most visionary, successful and ambitious creator of forests in Wales.
The estate was designed in the 'Picturesque' style and became an essential destination for visitors touring Wales in search of 'wild Nature'.
Today the mansion has gone and Hafod lies within a working forest. Its owner, the Forestry Commission, in partnership with the Hafod Trust, aims to conserve and restore the historic landscape, protect its important habitats, and provide access and enjoyment for walkers recreating on Johnes' pathwork.
