Hatchet Pond Car Park

Hatchet Pond is the largest body of water in the New Forest. Created in the 18th Century to provide power for an iron mill, the pond today provides valuable habitats for wildlife as well as being a scenic backdrop for a picnic. This is also a good place to head for to watch the sun go down.

This is also a popular location for people who want to participate in coarse fishing. The fish that can be caught include: Roach,Bream, Tench, Carp, Pike, Eels and Rudd. For more information on coarse fishing in the New Forest click here.

How to get there:

Hatchet Pond Car Park is in New Forest.
By car: from Beaulieu take the B3055 towards Brockenhurst, Hatchet Pond car park is situated on the junction with the B3054.
Beaulieu is the nearest town or village.

Lovely place to have a picnic and take photographs of the wild life with the lake in the background. Be warn horses make intrude on your picnic!

It only takes a hour to walk round i would not waste my time, there are other much better walks in the New Forest

I love hatchest pond, its amazing!! its so big i had to take a pic of it in 3 photos! it takes about an hr to walk arould and has a few smaller ponds up the top as well, i have also see a few big fish come other of there as well

Cycling
Just across the road form the entrance to the car park the cycle network starts and can be followed through to Lyndhurst or Brockenhurst. For more information on the Cycle Network please click on the link to the right.
Fishing
Coarse fishing in the New Forest is available at Hatchet Pond. A Forestry Commission fishing permit is required along with a rod license.
Camping
Information on camping in the New Forest can be obtained from Forest holidays either by clicking on the Forest holidays link to the right of the page, or by calling them on 0845 130 8224. ****Please note that wild camping is not allowed in the New Forest. Only use the designated campsties. We also recommend that you book your pitch in advance as the campsites can become very busy in the holiday periods.****
Wildlife Activities
Keep your eyes open for the vast array of spectacular dragonflies and damselfies that live in the area.
Barbecue
You can use raised portable BBQs at this site. Please refer to the BBQ link to the right for futher information. Disposable BBQs are not permitted at this site. Please use the special picnic tables at either Bolderwood or Blackwater if you wish to use a disposable BBQ
Picnic
Hatchet Pond is a tranquil spot to picnic, watch the passing water wildlife or fish.
Other Activities
Toilets are situated in the car park.
