Tall Trees Trail

You can begin and end at either Blackwater or Brock Hill car park The trail takes you on a leisurely stroll under majestic conifers planted in 1859 when it was the vogue to grow exotic trees. The path is a fairly smooth gravelled surface and flat with frequent resting places and no gates. If you have any questions about the suitability of any of these trails for your specific needs or about the accessibility of the wider Forest please contact the Forestry Commission's rangers on 023 8028 3141

What's of interest
The area has become famous not only for its huge conifers but also the impressive floral display during May when the rhododendrons flower. Unfortunately the rhododendron variety which almost completely dominates is rhododendron ponticum which spreads rapidly, smoothering native plants and wildlife. The Forestry Commission has started a restoration project which will remove the invasive rhododendron and replace it with other varieties. This will restore the area to its former Victorian splendour.

What to see now
Why not stop a while a wonder at the two Giant redwoods which are amongst the tallest trees in England.
