Geirionydd to Crafnant

About Geirionydd to Crafnant

Geirionydd Lake lies serene between forested hills and natural reed bed fringes. Broad zigzags of forest track lead up to a final rocky ascent. An avenue of trees takes us across the hill, and a longer rocky descent winds through close forest to where rocky cliffs guard the head of Crafnant lake. A short distance to the right along the road, there is a cafe- open in the summer. Returning by the same route, the climb is steeper and longer, but the descent rewards us with a fine open view over Geirionydd Valley.

How to get there:

Geirionydd to Crafnant can be started from Llyn Geirionydd in Gwydyr. Llanrwst is the nearest town or village.

Directions:

You can reach the lake by car from Trefriw or Gwydyr Castle, Llanrwst (follow signs for Geirionnydd), the narrow lane passing through the hamlet of Llanrhychwyn, or from the wiggley single-track road through Gwydyr Forest from the Ugly House (Tŷ Hyll) or Pont y Pair in Betws y Coed on the A5 to Capel Curig.
