About Ancient Beech Trail
See the 200 year old Beech trees planted by Thomas Johnes, the most visionary and successful planter of upland forests in Wales. He carried out trailblazing woodland creation and landscape design in this area between 1780 and 1813. The veteran trees on this walk provide a home for many species of insects and fungi. Look out for the wealth of unusual birdlife here, including the Crossbill. Red Kites may be seen soaring overhead.
How to get there:
Ancient Beech Trail can be started from The Arch Picnic Site in The Arch. Devil's Bridge/Pontarfynach is the nearest town or village.
Take the B4574 from Devil's Bridge to Cwmystwyth. The car park is just after the stone Arch on the left, approximately 3 kilometres from Devil's Bridge.
