About Brechfa Forest Gardens
The purple marked trail, starting out from the car park, leads to Brechfa Forest Gardens that comprise 89 plots of different tree species from around the world. The gardens differ from an arboretum because the area does not contain single specimens but rather groups or stands of each species that were planted in the 1950s. These stands now yield invaluable information to scientists looking at different species to plant in a changing climate in Britain.
The plots include rare and exotic species such as Korean Fir, Eucalyptus, Coast Redwood, Tulip Tree, Fraser Fir, Macedonian Pine, Southern Beech, Japanese Cedar, Serbian Spruce, American Snakebark Maple, Sierra Redwood, Small-leafed Lime and Silver Maple amongst others.
The conditions in Brechfa have proved to be suitable for the species from the humid oceanic temperate forests of the world and notable successes include the Coast Redwood Sequoia sempervirens and the rare Koyama Spruce Picea koyamae, classified as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
More information can be found on the link to the leaflet.
