About Menteith
The trail initially follows a forest road and climbs steadily as you head into Achray Forest. A narrower path then takes you through a stand of spruce before the short steep climb uphill, providing superb views of the Lake of Menteith, Flanders Moss, the Campsie and Fintry Hills. Stirling can be seen in the distance to the east and Loch Ard Forest to the west.
The steepest section of this path has fairly rough steps that have been cut out of the rock. Though this part of the path also has a handrail, it is safer to walk up the steps than to walk down them and we suggest you walk the route in an anti-clockwise direction.
How to get there:
Menteith can be started from Braeval in Achray Forest which is part of Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Aberfoyle is the nearest town or village.
From Stirling, follow the A81 - the car park is half a mile from the Rob Roy roundabout.
From Glasgow, follow the A81 signed for Aberfoyle, at the Rob Roy roundabout take a right for Callander. The car park is situated half a mile along the road on your left side.
