About Hie Dyke Path
Enjoy fantastic 360 degree views from the ridge here. In one direction you can see Tinto and the hills of the Scottish Borders and Southern Uplands. In the other you will see turbines on the horizon of the Black Law wind farm.
This circular path is surfaced for the first 530m and then becomes a grass path with an uneven surface. It will take you round the top part of this young woodland, past the Abbey Burn and back to the kissing gate.
How to get there:
Hie Dyke Path can be started from Lea Rig Kissing Gate in West Forth Woodland. Forth is the nearest town or village.
From Lanark, take the A706 and take the first left after entering Forth. Then take the sharp first left, then the first right, and the next left to the top of Lea Rig. Look out for the gate and Forestry Commission Scotland sign.

Wildlife
Mammals: Roe deer are often spotted in this woodland grazing in the open grassy glades. Otters are known to use the burns but are rarely seen. We have information about Roe deer and Otter
Birds: Many small birds use this woodland in the summer months but the most visible birds are probably the buzzards and kestrels to be seen soaring above the trees. But also keep your eyes open for great spotted woodpeckers, owls and eye-catching birds like wheatears.
Insects and reptiles: The open grassy meadows attract lots of butterflies in the summer months. The odd dragonfly is seen buzzing past as it hunts for food.
Habitats: As well as young conifer and broadleaf woodland you will see a reedbed / swamp and meadow areas.
