The Peat Pond walk is a circular trail that leads you through the forest, past a pond and then into Tashieburn woodland (not Forestry Commission Scotland property) before heading back into Heathland Forest.
The path is on unsurfaced forest tracks that are uneven and can be muddy.
How to get there:
Peat Pond can be started from Wilsontown Ironworks entrance in Heathland Forest which is part of Heathland Forest. Forth is the nearest town or village.
From the A706 take the B7016 signposted Wilsontown. Go straight ahead at the bend, and park in The Glen car park on the right-hand side.
Walk along the side of the public road past the Moose (Mousewater), being careful of traffic, and enter the forest at the bend in the road where you can see that there used to be a railway bridge.

Wildlife
Mammals: If you are lucky you may spot roe deer on this trail. Foxes are sometimes seen before they dart off into the trees. We have information about Roe deer
Birds: Buzzards and Kestrels are common above Tashieburn forest and many small woodland birds will be spotted in the trees.
Insects and reptiles: The Peat Pond is a great place for a rest in the summer where you can enjoy watching dragonflies patrolling above the water.
Habitats: This is a conifer forest but it has grasslands, peat bogs, a pond and a loch. We have information about Upland bog and Lowland bog
