About Green Walk
This walk takes a loop eastwards from the Red Walk. Through open pine forest, it passes the picturesque Longbowe Loch, formerly used as a curling pond.
Look out for small birds on and around the loch, and notice the bat boxes erected as roosting sites. Bats are attracted to water for the insects they feed on flying over the surface.

Wildlife
Mammals: There's always a chance of seeing roe deer, especially early and late when it's quiet. THere is also a good chance to see bats flying around the pond if you are out there late! We have information about Roe deer
Birds: Look out for ducks on the 'curling pond', including mallard and perhaps teal, as well as moorhen strutting along the pond edges. In spring listen for the distinctive song of willow warblers in the broadleaved trees near the pond.
Insects and reptiles: In summer mayflies and damselflies dart and hover over the surface of the pond. Watch for damselflies and dragonflies laying eggs in the vegetation in and around the pond.
