About Ferny Knowe Trail

You get a lot of variety on this walk. It takes you through both larch and Scots pine woodland. There are good views of the Deveron River and surrounding countryside towards Huntly. Some of the largest trees in the forest are found on this walk!

How to get there:

Ferny Knowe Trail can be started from The Bin in Forests of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Huntly and Keith are the nearest towns or villages.

Travel approximately two miles north of Huntly on the A96. The car park is signposted off to the right. The Huntly Peregrine WildWatch Centre is another mile further on, also on the right hand side.

Wildlife

Mammals: Red squirrel and roe deer can be seen early morning and at dusk. We have information about Red squirrel and Roe deer

Birds: Many woodland birds can be seen, look out for the occasional crossbill flocks. Birds of prey such as buzzard, sparrowhawk and peregrine can sometimes be seen too.

Insects and reptiles: In many of the fire dams we have palmate newts.
Butterflies include Red Admirals, Meadow Browns, Scotch Argus, Mountain Ringlets and many more.
