Red Cycle Trail

(Average user rating4 unrated 3.8/5)

About Red Cycle Trail

There are two sections of the red trail that are spurs off the white trail. One section goes over Green Hill which is quite muddy and rocky. The other red section goes over Cairn William and should be ridden from west to east.

The Cairn William section has rocky and slab sections (including the Devil's staircase), berms, jumps and great views!

This trail is suitable for good mountain bikers.

Gradients: Steep.

Surface: width below 1m with a wide range of surfaces including very rocky over slabs and staircase.

How to get there:

Red Cycle Trail can be started from Pitfichie in Forests of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Monymusk and Kemnay are the nearest towns or villages.

Follow the B993 out of Monymusk towards Alford. After approximately two miles turn right at the sign for Whitehills Cycle Trails.

Follow this road for about half a mile to the car park.

Mammals: Red squirrels and roe deer can be seen early morning or at dusk. We have information about Red squirrel and Roe deer

Birds: In the woodland look out for birds such as blue tit, coal tit, great tit, siskins, greenfinch, goldcrests, cross bills and long tail tits. On the open hill look out for the occasional black grouse. Ospreys often fly overhead in the summer as they nest close to the River Don.

The Pifichie red + orange trail is one of my favourites in the area. Great fun.

Just a quick nod to Daves' review. Pitfichie does indeed require a lot of climbing, but it's worth it. To get the best from the trails link the red with the orange downhill section to finish off.
