Red Trail

(Average user rating3 unrated 3/5)

About Red Trail

Small temporary closures of some parts of the trails till end June. Diversions will be signed where possible. Please obey all signage for your own safety.

A suggested diversion is also in place for part of this trail where the surface is rough. (Updated 23rd May 2012)

This waymarked route encircles the heart of Kirkhill forest. It is on forest road for most of the way and gives terrific views over Bennachie and to the north. There are only a few steep gradients, making this an ideal family cycle.

To and from East Woodlands Car Park

A one mile blue waymarked path leads off the main Red Trail and goes to East Woodlands Car Park. This part of the trail has some steeper sections.

Cyclists should be aware that they share many of the routes with horse riders and walkers.

How to get there:

Red Trail can be started from Kirkhill in Forests of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Dyce, Kintore, Inverurie, Kirkton Of Skene, Garlogie, Westhill, Kingswells, Newmachar, Bucksburn, and Aberdeen are the nearest towns or villages.

This wood is on the north side of the A96, between the Dyce roundabout and the Blackburn roundabout.

From Inverurie or Kintore on the A96, Kirkhill is sign posted on your left, approximately 2.5 km after the Blackburn roundabout.

Its a good place to go to get the fitness done and mess around but on the whole, the place needs major attention and investment. There is so much potential for trails and mini DH tracks, that would bring this place many more visitors.

I MTB (Mountain Bike) and the main fire road is ok, however a hard stone gravel part has been laid which makes cycling hazerdous for less experienced riders. On the whole a good place for a loop for a couple of hours. Need more in the area
