About Viewpoint Walk
This walk follows a forest road uphill through pinewoods to the 'classic' view of Glen Affric.
Looking west across Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin, there are magnificent views of pinewoods and the rugged Affric mountains. On a clear day you can see for 13miles, most of which is within the Reserve.
The walk returns the same way - look out for some very impressive, old Scots pine trees beside the forest road.
There are information boards about some of the wildlife of Glen Affric along the route.

For full details of the glen see our main Glen Affric pages.
How to get there:
Viewpoint Walk can be started from Dog Falls Carpark in Glen Affric. Cannich, Tomich, Struy, Beauly, Balnain, Drumnadrochit, and Inverness are the nearest towns or villages.
From either Beauly or Drumnadrochit, take the A831 to Cannich, then the unclassified road through Cannich which is signposted Glen Affric.
After two miles, at the Fasnakyle power station, turn right up to Glen Affric. Dog Falls car park is a further two and a half miles along.

Wildlife
Mammals: We have information about Red deer and Roe deer
Birds: Many birds are seen along the walk. Look and listen for coal, great and long-tailed tits and if you are lucky the crested tit. Wrens, robins and chaffinch abound, and from the viewpoints look up to the hills to spot buzzards or very occasionally golden eagle. We have information about Golden eagle and Capercaille
Insects and reptiles: There are couple of wood ants nests along the track. Take care not to disturb the nest - a big one may have taken 200 years to build! We have information about Adder and Pearl-bordered fritillary
Habitats: This is a great walk from which to see pinewoods. Also, at the viewpoint look across to the plantation and compare with the more natural pinewood areas you are walking in. We have information about Pinewood and Upland bog
