About Farigaig Walk
The Farigaig Walk starts from the information centre and climbs steadily through trees to Lochan Torr an Tuill.
This is a very beautiful area with a wide variety of species and ages of trees including some large specimen conifers. There are excellent views over Loch Ness and across the Inverfarigaig gorge to Dun Dearduil.
On top of this rocky hilltop is the site of a vitrified Iron Age fort dating from around 500BC.
The variety of forests and native woodland around Faigaig creates valuable habitat for a wide range of wildlife. Badgers, red squirrels and pine marten are some of the animals that thrive here, however you are more likely to spot signs of them than the animals themselves.
How to get there:
Farigaig Walk can be started from Farigaig Carpark in Farigaig which is part of Great Glen Forest. Inverfarigaig, Foyers, Dores, Whitebridge, Fort Augustus, and Inverness are the nearest towns or villages.
From Inverness, take the B862 to Dores, then the B852 to Inverfarigaig. From Fort Augustus take the B862 and, one and a half miles after Whitebridge, take the B852 to Inverfarigaig.
The carpark is signposted from Inverfarigaig, just along the unclassified road to the Pass of Inverfarigaig.
There is a very infrequent bus service between Inverness and Fort Augustus.
