(Average user rating5 unrated 4.5/5)

About Tarbert to Skipness walk

This route incorporates the first leg of the Kintyre Way.

From the road at the top of the Corranbuie walk the trail takes you up around 1000 feet into the hills above Tarbert and down to the village of Skipness. There are spectacular views all the way, north to Loch Gilp, East across Loch Fyne to Cowal and South to the hills of Arran.

On the open heather moor look out for grouse and hen harriers. As the path reaches the forest road that takes you to the village of Skipness there is an outstanding view down the glen and across the Kilbrannan Sound to the hills of Arran.

Further down the glen are the beautiful atlantic oakwoods of Skipness Caledonian Forest Reserve where you can see a rich variety of wildlife.

From Skipness you can continue along the coastal road to Claonaig pier where the ferry leaves for Lochranza on the Isle of Arran, or catch a bus to bring you back to Tarbert.

Buses from Skipness to Tarbert are infrequent so check at the Tarbert Tourist Office for times.

The weather can change quickly in the hills along this route - please ensure you are well prepared.
