About The Cobbler (Ben Arthur)
The trail is a compacted path, with some loose surface material in places. Many sections of the hill path are stone pitched or have steps. The first part of the path climbs gently to a forest road. The next section, which takes you to the tree line, is steeper, and the path - though mostly dry - is less uniform. From the tree line you take a upland hill path, which is firm underfoot, but very steep in places.
The Cobbler is the ‘mountain piece de resistance’ of the whole Argyll Forest Park. Curiously, the mountain is practically always labelled ‘Ben Arthur’ on maps, but that name hardly ever passes the lips of locals or climbers.
Remember once the red waymarkers stop you are on open hillside and should be prepared for such. Please make sure that you have strong footwear, waterproofs and extra warm clothing with you as well as a current map and compass.
