Boundary Walk

(Average user rating4 unrated 3.3/5)

About Boundary Walk

The boundary walk winds through Chopwell Wood, past conifer and broadleaf woodland, on forest roads and footpaths. The industrial heritage of Chopwell Wood is apparent as you cross the stone bridge over the old mineral railway line, which you will join for a short spell further along the trail. As you began the climb from the river Derwent back towards the car park, the trail guides you past a variety of woodland sculptures including giant eggs, woodland guardians and the popular Chopwell ‘hands’, which are at the end of a stunning avenue of copper beech trees.

How to get there:

Boundary Walk can be started from Chopwell Wood Main Car Park in Chopwell Woodland Park. High Spen, Chopwell, Rowlands Gill, Gateshead, and Newcastle are the nearest towns or villages.

600 metres along road into the wood, the car park is situated on the left.

Lovely walks however very little signposts so had to ask for directions twice. Had 2 dogs & 2 pre school children, no dog bins & no toilets which lets it down for us.

Lovely woods, no bins for dog dirt so as someone already mentioned lots of dog dirt, not very well signposted either, but its so very beautiful you can forgive it

could benefit from better signing, struggled with downloaded map and had to direct other families. lovely woods but lot of dog dirt and could do with some toilets and some kind of play area for young children. ironically there were lots of yellow ribbons tied around, chopwell woods could really benefit from some outside investment.
