About Family Cycle Trail

Fineshade Family Cycle route is a 5 mile circular trail starting and finishing at the top of the car park. The gentle green graded trail has some gentle to moderate hilly sections and takes you through most of the main woodland block and the varied habitats within it. The route also has 7 alternative blue grade taster sections, that run along side the main route, allowing cyclists to test their skill and progress to more challenging terrain.

How to get there:

Family Cycle Trail can be started from Top Lodge Fineshade Wood in Fineshade Wood which is part of Rockingham Forest. Stamford (Lincolnshire) is the nearest town or village.

Top Lodge and Fineshade are signposted from the A43, between Stamford and Corby, opposite the turning for Wakerley Woods. The postcode for SatNavs and Route Finders is NN17 3BB.

Excellent facilities for a family ride. The blue areas for the kids to have a play on we're excellent.

Due to the time of year that I've gone, the trails over at Wakerley are in a pretty bad way. However, come the summer I will be back to check them out again as there is enough there to warrant a return visit.

Trail builders have been busy with the diggers and several new sections are in development. Look out for spray painted markers. The new additions have spiced up the trail and cut down the time spent on fire roads. The route now is far more enjoyable.

Considering the terrain in Wakerley Wood is quite flat the new sections make good use of the limited terrain available.

The trail could do with a few berms, bumps & drops on the sloping sections to make it more entertaining. Due to ancient quarrying there are plenty of bomb holes and it would be nice to see those incorporated into the trails.
