The Elephant Walk is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs ands is on surfaced ground. It is named after the Elephant Pond, which it passes by. These massive creatures worked in the forest during the Second World War, and came to this pond to cool off after a hard day's work. The trail incorporates the exciting Tree Top Way, a canopy walkway which rises to a height of 20 metres, giving a real 'squirrel's eye view'! The walkway is wheelchair accessible to a height of 15 metres.
How to get there:
Elephant Walk can be started from Salcey Forest Access Point in Salcey Forest. Hartwell is the nearest town or village.
Salcey Forest is between Milton Keynes and Northampton, and located immediately to the east of the small village of Hartwell.

Wildlife
Mammals: We have information about Fallow deer, Badger and Otter
Birds: Greater and lesser spotted and green woodpeckers may be seen, together with jays, collared doves and wrens.
Insects and reptiles: A huge variety of dragonflies, and possibly 30 species of butterflies may be seen, in season.
Habitats: Lowland oak woodland, with ash and field maple. Several ponds, wet areas and coppiced hazel.
