Geo Trail

(Average user rating4 unrated 3.5/5)

About Geo Trail

An easy stroll, meandering through varied woodland out to the view point over looking Shrewsbury.

This is a linear route that runs gradually up hill and is suitable for buggies and mobility scooters. However it is a long route for anyone pushing a wheelchair.

The quarry veiwing platform is an excellent chance to see the neighbouring quarry working especially if you know anyone who likes dumper trucks!

At the end of the trail there is now a toposcope to help you identify the hills beyond Shrewsbury (and have a rest as it doubles as a seat).

Please note

The final 200 yd section of the trail to the toposcope is unsurfaced and bumpy so hard going for small wheeled pushchairs and some mobility scooters and wheelchairs.  This is because it is an ancient monument (an ironage enclosure) and we are restricted as to how we change it.

How to get there:

Geo Trail can be started from Haughmond Hill Car Park and Picnic Site in Haughmond Hill which is part of The Marches. Shrewsbury is the nearest town or village.

Take the Shrewsbury to Newport road, B5062, turn right after Haughmond Abbey. After 500m, turn right again into the car park.

I enjoyed the trail, and stone plaque information. Suitable for pushchairs and wheel chairs. Quarry view point was informative and gave good view of the quarry. Well done.

I recently brought a small U3A Geology Group. I think we need to return when the Geology Trail is complete. Will you be creating a helpful leaflet for the geology trail? With that, and the promised permanent cafe and toilets our star rating would go up to 5.

The hole in the hill is a fact, and the recent viewing platform is in no way an eyesore. I therefore think that this is a very worthwhile project, adding interest, without detracting from a splendid walk
