About Haugh Wood Butterfly Trails

In order for everyone to enjoy the butterflies of Haugh Woods, Forest Enterprise and Butterfly Conservation have set up two trails through the woods. The trails mainly follow hard forest tracks and traverse gentle slopes. Along the trail are information boards describing some of the butterflies that may be see on the walk.

How to get there:

Haugh Wood Butterfly Trails can be started from Haugh Woods in Haugh Woods which is part of Hereford Woodlands. Mordiford is the nearest town or village.

From Hereford, take the B4224 towards Ross-on-Wye. At Mordiford turn left just after the 'Moon' pub, follow the signs for Haugh Wood and Woolhope. The main carpark is about 2 miles along this road on the left hand side.

What's of interest

The walks follow wide rides which act as wildlife corridors, connecting areas of coppice and providing permanent open areas where flowers grow to produce nectar for adult butterflies and foodplants for the caterpillars.
