Mailscot Wood Trails

(Average user rating4 unrated 3.3/5)

About Mailscot Wood Trails

The trail meanders southwards keeping to the ridge high above the tumbling River Wye. The woodlands covering the valley sides are a wonderful mosaic of broadleaf and conifer trees, providing a variety of wildlife habitats. There are panoramic views across the river gorge towards the towering limestone outcrops at the Seven Sisters, with Bilbins Suspension Bridge and Youth Campsite below.

How to get there:

Mailscot Wood Trails can be started from Symonds Yat Rock in Wye Valley Woods which is part of Wye Valley. Coleford is the nearest town or village.

From the A40 at Monmouth take the A4136 towards Gloucester. At the Pike House crossroads turn left and proceed into Christchurch, take the B4432 left hand fork opposite the church and follow the signposts to Symonds Yat Rock.

Lovely walk, but it might have been nice for the Forestry Commission to warn us that they were working in the wood and that we would have to avoid heavy machinery and clamber over felled trees. Especially as we had young children with us...

Lovely walk, started at Symonds Yat log cabin, bit wet underfoot, saw deer and peregrine falcons.

I loved the walk,I started from the Biblins campsite. A great length for a morning walk, having lunch at the gorgeous Symonds Yat Rock Viewpoint where you can observe periguin falcons and then back again via the circular trail. The only thing that would have been nice was more of the trail to be over looking the river.
