Whisky Gill Walk

(Average user rating4 unrated 4/5)

About Whisky Gill Walk

This walk starts in Blackling Hole car park, situated at the western end of the forest drive. A short but diverse walk with steep climbs and descents. The first section climbs steeply up the side of the gill before joining the forest road, which is eventually left behind to drop down to cross the forest drive and the Spurlswood beck. Now the route follows another forest track before it gives access to Greenless Hole, a hidden little cascade, and then returning to the forest drive and the start. Wild life to be seen along this walk include wood ant nests, leaping salmon and roe deer.

How to get there:

Whisky Gill Walk can be started from Hamsterley Forest Visitor Centre in Hamsterley. Hamsterley, Witton-le Wear, Wolsingham, Bishop Auckland, and Durham are the nearest towns or villages.

Turn right in Hamsterley village following the brown tourist signs, turn left in hamlet of Bedburn to enter the forest and access the forest drive and car parks. The charge is GBP 3 per car (GBP 5 on bank holiday weekends), GBP 8 minibus and GBP 12 coach.
