Mamhead Sensory Trail

(Average user rating5 unrated 5/5)

About Mamhead Sensory Trail

Enjoy this all ability trail which takes you along flat, well surfaced tracks. There are two loops of one and one and a half miles that both lead to and from the car park.

Discover the breathtaking viewpoint near the Obelisk with it's tactile interpretation board and the viewpoint overlooking the city of Exeter. There are plenty of resting places that have been enhanced with special interpretation features to stimulate your senses.

A pre-visit pack is available for people with a visual impairment, with braille and tactile mapping. Contact the Ranger's Office for details on 01392 834251 or e-mail haldon.rangers@forestry.gsi.gov.uk.

Please note there are no toilets at the car park.

How to get there:

Mamhead Sensory Trail can be started from Mamhead Car Park in Haldon Forest Park. Exeter is the nearest town or village.

Travelling by car on the A380 turn off at the top of Telegraph Hill towards Starcross. Take the first right turn and the car park is located half a mile further along on the left hand side.

Wildlife

Birds: This area comes alive on summer nights with the distinctive churring call of the nightjar. Ground-nesting birds, they prefer the open brash-strewn habitat created by clear-felling, which camouflages them so superbly. Our Rangers lead guided nightjar walks during the summer. We have information about Nightjar

Can you cycle in Mamhead or is it only for walking?
