About The Lich Way
The Lich Way is a long-distance bridleway that starts in Bellever and is named due to its historic beginnings.
In the 13th Century, residents of the small farmsteads in the surrounding area had to make the twelve mile journey across the moor to bury their dead at Lydford parish church. The word 'lich' has its origins in Old English, meaning 'body'.
The trail passes through Bellever Forest and proceeds out on to the moor.
How to get there:
The Lich Way can be started from Bellever Car Park in Bellever. Postbridge is the nearest town or village.
At Postbridge, on the B3212 Yelverton to Mortonhampstead road, take the turning signposted for Bellever. After 1 1/2km, you will enter the village. Turn left at the triangle of grass, and after 130m you will see the entrance to Bellever Forest on the right.
