About Altura Trail

 

Supported by Zyro, makers of Altura Clothing and mountain bike products, The Altura Trail puts the mountain back into biking and has been built for experienced riders with good off road skills and a higher level of fitness and stamina.

The trail is a  19 kilometre red grade mountain bike route which includes 15 Through the forest on the Altura trailkilometres of single track. There are challenging single track sections and popular features like berms, jumps, rock features, skinnies, cork screws and table tops. There are also fantatsic views of Derwent water, Bassenthwaite, Helvelyn and Skiddaw as the trail takes the rider to an altitude of 500m (1600ft) above Keswick.

How to get there:

Altura Trail can be started from Whinlatter Visitor Centre in Whinlatter Forest Park. Keswick is the nearest town or village.

Road:- From Keswick: Take the A66 west towards Cockermouth. At Braithwaite turn west onto the B5292 for Lorton. Follow Visitor Centre Sign Posts.

Bus:- Bus from Keswick.

Train:- Nearest station is Penrith (25 miles east) on the west coast mainline.

This is a really great trail, its great for people who are new to red routes. Im only 13 and its a really good trail to do. The uphill is worth it, because the downhill on the north loop is fast, steep and it flows smoothly.

Amazing trail - think of Llandegla and Coed Y Brennin and you have Winlater - the only down side is the SLOG you will know it when you hit it !!!!
