(Average user rating4 unrated 3.5/5)

About Orienteering course

There are twenty permanent orienteering posts scattered throughout this interesting and diverse forest. The map has suggestions of routes you may take depending on what type you are aiming for e.g easy, moderate or difficult. Or if none of them suit, you can just make up your own!
Maps are available from the Forest Office, the Cafe in the Woods or the Wendover Tourist Information Centre.

Please note: The Orienteering Course in Wendover Woods has been updated as of October 2011. Most of the course remains the same, with the exception that control point 8 & 16 have been moved to a new location. New maps are available from the Forest Office, Café & Wendover Tourist Information Centre. If you have purchased a map before 12.10.2011 then you will need to purchase an updated map to locate control point 8 & 16. All other control points remain the same.

How to get there:

Orienteering course can be started from Main entrance in Wendover Woods. Wendover and Aylesbury is the nearest town or village.

Signposted from the B4009 between Wendover and Tring. The main entrance can be found 250 yards along the St Leonards Road on the right.

What are the answers to the orienteering course? We've been walking round for hours and we haven't found a single pole :(

Brilliant. We picked up a map from the tourist information centre which is in the quaint clock tower in Wendover High Street. Cost two of your hard earned English pounds and came in a durable plastic sleeve to protect it from the delights of the English weather! The lady in the centre was so helpful and there is no way you can miss the fact that post 16 is temporarily unavailable. This is probably the most accurate map I have ever seen and I used to be a cartographer in my early days. It is simply excellent. We had a fantastic day out walking in Wendover woods and found all the control posts exactly where the map said they would be. The back of the map has some suggested coursed and good description of the technical difficulty of each. The map is so accurate in depicting the paths and geographical features that you really don't need a compass at all. If, like me, you love to be fully in harmony with the planet, then you will use a compass to enhance the experience. Well done Wendover!

Did most of the course today, nice course but it would be good of the maps were available online. Also some of the posts are definitely missing and some are in the wrong place!
