The Arch Woodland Trail

You will encounter a wide variety of welcoming woodland habitats. Perhaps most stunning are the 200 year old Beech trees planted by Thomas Johnes, a pioneer of upland forestry who lived at the nearby Hafod Estate (which this woodland used to be part of). Because of the mixed ages and species of the trees here, a wealth of birdlife can be found. Raven, Kestrel, Redpoll, Sparrowhawk, Long-tailed tit and Crossbill can all be found here. Also keep an eye out for the majestic Red kite.

How to get there:

The Arch Woodland Trail can be started from The Arch Picnic Site in The Arch. Devil's Bridge/Pontarfynach is the nearest town or village.

Take the B4574 from Devil's Bridge to Cwmystwyth. The car park is just after the stone Arch on the left, approximately 3 kilometres from Devil's Bridge.
