Lime Craig

(Average user rating4 unrated 4/5)

About Lime Craig

Diversion in place due to forestry operations. Please follow all signage.

Enjoy the walk along the edge of Achray Forest, before making the steep climb through the forest to Lime Craig.

The views from the top are superb. Glen Finglas sits to the north and to the south, Flanders Moss and the Carse of Stirling – with the Gargunnock Hills, the Campsie Fells and The Fintry Hills further on. The trail then heads downhill through an open mixed conifer woodland and back to the carpark.

The majority of this route is on forest roads. However the steepest section follows a rougher track which has loose surface material in places. It is safer to walk up (rather than down) this section and we therefore suggest that the route be walked in a clockwise direction.

How to get there:

Lime Craig can be started from Braeval in Achray Forest which is part of Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Aberfoyle is the nearest town or village.

From Stirling, follow the A81 - the car park is half a mile from the Rob Roy roundabout.

From Glasgow, follow the A81 signed for Aberfoyle, at the Rob Roy roundabout take a right for Callander. The car park is situated half a mile along the road on your left side.

Went up Lime Craig today, clockwise, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only criticism is that at the meeting of the path near Aberfoyle it should be clear which way Braeval is. I went the wrong way into Aberfoyle. Plus red sign post missing on clockwise direction to signify a turn on to a path going up hill on the left.
