About Peregrine Wild Watch Trail to Hide

A choice of short trails take you from the visitor centre past the pond to the bird hide overlooking the quarry, with opportunities to see some of the local wildlife or have a picnic.

How to get there:

Peregrine Wild Watch Trail to Hide can be started from The Bin in Forests of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Huntly and Keith are the nearest towns or villages.

Travel approximately two miles north of Huntly on the A96. The car park is signposted off to the right. The Peregrine WildWatch Centre is another mile further on, also on the right hand side.

Wildlife

Mammals: Daily visits from red squirrels and woodland birds at the feeders. Regular visits from pine martens late in the season. We have information about Red squirrel

Birds: Other birds of prey that may be seen include Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Goshawk and Kestrel. Regular woodland birds to the feeding stations and throughout the site are Finches, Tits, Siskins,Grey and Pied Wagtails, Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, Pippits and, if you are lucky, Crossbills and Spotted Flycatchers.

Insects and reptiles: Palmate newts and Common frogs are regular visitors to our pond as well as mayflies, dragonfly and damselfly nymphs, beetle and midge larvae.

Habitats: In July and August wild flowers including North Marsh Orchids and Twayblade can be seen on the edges of the paths and in the woodland. Please ask our wardens for more details.

I visited here with my class last May and we had a fantastic time! The children had a great time thanks to the wardens.We are hoping to repeat the visit with this year's P3 class - here's hoping !

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit.Great that my hubby who has angina could take the car to the top. Warden was so helpful and spotted the female bird on a post for us. The red squirrel came along and hosts of birds were at the feeders. Keep up the good work.Much better than seeing the birds shackled at the other falconry,We are going to come back when the chicks have hatched to see if we can see them.
