March Trail

(Average user rating: unrated unrated)

About March Trail

Timber lorries will be present in the forest until summer as they collect the timber for distribution. Please obey all signage and make way for lorries when necessary. (Updated 19th April 2012)

This is the longer of the two waymarked walks at Scolty. It is a great walk to let you get a feel for this special wood as it takes you past old settlements, mature conifers and along the edge of open scrub and moorland.

Watch out for wildlife too. Scolty is a great place to see red squirrels and roe deer. You might even be lucky enough to see jays or woodpeckers on your walk.

How to get there:

March Trail can be started from Scolty in Forests of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Banchory, Auchattie, and Strachan are the nearest towns or villages.

Scolty lies to the south of Banchory, just over the River Dee. There is a car park there, or people can walk in from Banchory.

The car park is roughly 1.75 km from the traffic lights in Banchory.

Take the B976 south at the traffic lights, cross over the River Dee, take the first public road to the right, then the next public road to the left.

Near the top of the hill turn right along a track past the Scolty sign board, and take the next track to the right again past another sign board. The car park is on your left roughly 30m along this track. For Sat Nav use postcode AB31 6PT.
