About White Trail

Please note that timber lorries will be travelling on the forest roads in the north end of Pitfichie till end July. Please move aside if you see them.

Trail suitable for walkers, horse riders and good mountain bikers. The route leads around the lower edges of the forest and around Cairn William and Pitfichie Hill.

You'll pass the Whitehills Stone Circle early on. Stop for a moment and enjoy the distant views across the Vale of Alford and to Bennachie.

Gradient: Moderate with some steep sections.

Surface: Mostly on forest road with about 10% rough track.

How to get there:

White Trail can be started from Pitfichie in Forests of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Monymusk and Kemnay are the nearest towns or villages.

Follow the B993 out of Monymusk towards Alford. After approximately two miles turn right at the sign for Whitehills Cycle Trails.

Follow this road for about half a mile to the car park.

Wildlife

Mammals: Red squirrels and roe deer can be seen early morning and at dusk. We have information about Red squirrel and Roe deer

Birds: In the woodland look out for birds such as blue tit, coal tit, great tit, siskins, greenfinch, goldcrests and long tail tits. On the open hill look out for the occasional black grouse. Ospreys often fly overhead in the summer as they nest close to the River Don.
