Green Walk

(Average user rating: unrated unrated)

About Green Walk

This trail first runs parallel above the road next to fields and under a canopy of mature pine and Douglas fir. It then climbs a little through spruce plantation to reach a wide forest road. It joins up with the Blue Walk to return to the car park.

  • Check before you go - for details of trail closures, diversions and changes to listed events see the updates page.

How to get there:

Green Walk can be started from Monaughty in Forests of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Elgin and Miltonduff are the nearest towns or villages.

From Elgin take the B9010 Dallas road for one mile, then the Pluscarden minor road for a further 2.5 miles, where the Torrieston car park is on the right.

From Forres, take the B9010 Rafford/Dallas road for four miles, then the Pluscarden minor road. The Torreston car park is two miles beyond Pluscarden, on the left.

Wildlife

Mammals: Look out for nibbled pine cones left by red squirrels, and roe deer early and late in the day. There's always a chance of seeing a pine marten scamper up a tree in search of food. We have information about Red squirrel and Roe deer

Birds: A variety of small birds find food and shelter in the broadleaved trees along the start of the walk. In autumn blackbirds and thrushes enjoy the wild cherries and rowan berries. Listen for the mewing of buzzards circling above the edge of the wood.

Insects and reptiles: In summer, butterflies flit among the grassy verges of the paths.
