Two Lochan Trail

(Average user rating: unrated unrated)

About Two Lochan Trail

Start by going along the top of the old glacial ridge, looking down to the lochan which was formed as a glacial kettle-hole.

Continue through pine woodland, past the entrance to an old quarry. The stone from the quarry was used to build part of nearby Ballater

Then follow the edge of the open heather moor beside the power line. The path turns right, following the Queel Burn through open pine and birch wood, before passing another lochan and then returning to the car park.

It is well surfaced all the way, although some sections are steep and there are steps down as you follow the Queel Burn.

How to get there:

Two Lochan Trail can be started from Cambus O' May in Forests of Moray and Aberdeenshire. Ballater, Aboyne, and Dinnet are the nearest towns or villages.

Cambus O'May Wood lies on the north side of the A93 between Ballater and Dinnet.

From Ballater, take the A93 east. The Cambus O'May car park is sign posted on your left roughly four km from the edge of Ballater. There is a bus stop at the forest entrance.
