Balblair BLACK Grade Trail

(Average user rating4 unrated 4/5)

About Balblair BLACK Grade Trail

During the first phase the quad track at the end of Rock Hard will be closed.  Please follow the diversions along the forest road up to Candy Mountain.

The second phase will start at the top of Candy Mountain and run down to Loopy Loo (the diversion will be signposted at the end of Rock Hard down to Candy Mountain).

This work is going to improve the trail, so please respect the safety of the guys working there and follow the diversions.

We promise to keep trail closures to a minimum, and will let you know as soon as the trails are back up and running!?!?

Alternatively, you can avoid the grief of these improvement works by driving an extra 25 minutes up the road to Golspie for the world leading trails at Highland Wildcat.

The Trail

Are you an experienced mountain biker who is up for a challenge? Then have a go at the black route. There is plenty here to test even the most experienced cyclist with rock slabs such as "Rock Hard" and "Candy Mountain", timber trails and lung busting uphill sections.

Not for the faint hearted, but the view from the top of the hill at the mast is well worth the effort.

How to get there:

Balblair BLACK Grade Trail can be started from Balblair Mountain Bike Trails in Kyle of Sutherland Mountain Bike Trails which is part of Sutherland. Bonar Bridge is the nearest town or village.

From Bonar Bridg,e take the A836 west towards Lairg for about one mile - the car park is signposted on the right.
