Rieunachan Walk

Carefully cross over the main ski road from the car park and into the forest on the other side. Turn left and follow the trail down to the riverside, the Abhainn Ruigh-eunachan. This is a spate river which can rise dramatically after snow melt or heavy rains. Bear to the right and follow the riverside path, looking out for dippers, sandpipers and wagtails along the way. The path emerges into the Allt Mor car park, skirting its bottom edge before turning sharp right and running parallel with the main road through the forest back to the Herons Field car park.

How to get there:

Rieunachan Walk can be started from Hayfield in Glenmore which is part of Glenmore Forest Park. Aviemore is the nearest town or village.

Take the ski road from Aviemore towards the Cairngorms and after 6 miles you will be in Glenmore Forest Park. Go through Glenmore Village, cross the bridge over the Abhainn Ruigh-eunachan and the Herons Field car park is 150 yards beyond the bridge on the right.
