About Green Trail

Please be aware that there is currently a diversion on the Southern Upland way between Caldons and Glenhead please follow on site signage. (Updated 20th May 2013)
 
Walk along Loch Trool and enjoy the sound of the water lapping against the rocky shores. Stand where the Battle of Steps of Trool was fought between the English and the Scots. Take in the stunning views across the tranquil waters to the Fell of Eschoncan and Buchan Hill, the foothills of the Merrick.

How to get there:

Green Trail can be started from Glentrool Visitor Centre in Galloway Forest Park. Newton Stewart is the nearest town or village.

From Newton Stewart take A714 signposted to Girvan for 8 miles. Take right turn at Bargrennan signposted Galloway Forest Park. Take next right turn just past Glentrool village, signposted Glentrool Visitor Centre.

By Bus: 359, goes from Newton Stewart to Ayr, stopping at Glentrool Village.
