About Faery Isles Cycle Trail
This easy route takes you through mixed forest and then into the atlantic oakwoods of the Loch Sween Caledonian Forest Reserve where there are stunning views of Loch Sween.
Stop for a picnic at the beautiful Starfish Bay in the heart of the reserve where, if you are lucky, you might see an otter fishing in the sheltered waters amongst the small islands.
How to get there:
Faery Isles Cycle Trail can be started from Oib Gate in Knapdale Forest. Cairnbaan and Tayvallich are the nearest towns or villages.
From Lochgilphead, follow A816 north for two and a half miles, then turn left onto B841 for Cairnbaan and Crinan. At Bellanoch turn left onto the B8025 for Tayvallich. Oib Gate is just over one mile along this road.
From Oban, follow the A816 south to one mile beyond Kilmartin then turn right onto the B8025 tasking you to Bellanoch. Turn right at the Canal bridge at Bellanoch, then next left onto road for Tayvallich for just over one mile.
