Dunardry walk

(Average user rating4 unrated 4/5)

About Dunardry walk

The Dunardry walk can be started from the Dunardry car park in Knapdale Forest. Please observe and use the current diversion routes in place.

Along the trail after passing the ruined croft a trail leads uphill to a fantastic viewpoint.

Well worth the amazing views

At the viewpoint there are panoramic views over Mòine Mhór National Nature Reserve, out over the mud flats of the Add Estuary and the Crinan Basin and towards the hills of Mull in the distance. Looking southwest the hills of Jura and Scarba can also be seen.

Soon after reaching the tarmac road, a narrow trail leads into mature Norway spruce and douglas fir trees this trail rejoins the forest road a short distance from the car park.

From the car park, which over looks the Crinan Canal, the trail follows the forest road through the mature mixed conifer and broadleaved woodland of Dunardry Face. Openings through the trees give views down to boats negotiating the canal locks.

How to get there:

Dunardry walk can be started from Dunardry in Knapdale Forest. Cairnbaan by Lochgilphead is the nearest town or village.

From Lochgilphead, follow the A816 two miles north, then turn left on to the B841. After travelling about one and a half miles, Dunardry car park is on the left.
