Popular walk for all abilties

This great improved access all ability trail beside Loch Barnluasgan is ideal for wheelchair users and families with young children. The trail looks over the loch to the Atlantic Oak Woodland of the Caledonian Forest Reserve.

Learn as you walk

Along the trail there are a series of finger posts that encourage you to look closer at the inhabitants of this beautiful wood.

Become a Nature Detective

Half way around the trail there is a wildlife hide where you can sit and look out for some of the birds that visit the Loch.

How to get there:

All Ability Wildlife Trail can be started from Barnluasgan Information Centre in Knapdale Forest. Lochgilphead is the nearest town or village.

From A816 one mile north of Loghgilphead. Follow B841 towards Crinan then B8025 from Bellanoch towards Tayvallich. Barnluasgan Visitor Centre is at the junction of the road to Achnamara village.

Wildlife

Mammals: Keep your eyes open because timid and rare red squirrels live here. If you are really fortunate (or a very early riser) you might see an otter because they will be up at dawn searching all the lochs around here for fish. We have information about Red squirrel, Red deer, Roe deer and Otter

Birds: Whooper swans are here through the winter, moorhens, mallards and herons poised in silent stillness trying to catch a trout are a common sight on Loch Barnluasgan. However you might also see golden eye ducks or even an osprey. We have information about Osprey
