About Cologin Red Trail
Please note that Cologin has now re-opened. (As at January 17th 2012)
A two mile waymarked trail through conifer plantation and mixed broadleaved woodland, with views over Ben Cruachan. Part of the trail follows an old drove road, from which there are superb views across the Loch Gleann a' Bhearraidh reservoir towards Mull and Oban Bay.
From the Cologin car park, go through the gate beside the trailhead sign and follow the track up the hill through the field. At the top of the field, cross over the stile to enter the woodland, following the red waymarkers.
Waterproof walking boots are advised, as the path can be muddy.
A map of the route can be downloaded from the right hand side of this page.
How to get there:
Cologin Red Trail can be started from Cologin car park in Cologin Wood. Oban is the nearest town or village.
From Oban, take the A816 southwards towards Lochgilphead for approximately two miles and then turn right into the minor road to Lerags.
The turning is about 400m past the Oban Livestock Market and is signposted to 'Cologin Chalets'. Follow the single track road into Lerags Glen for about half a mile then turn right for the Cologin car park.
