Hemlock Walk

The Kilmun Forest research plots were established in the 1930's to monitor the success of a variety of exotic tree species in the humid west coast environment. Among the exotic species in the Aboretum there are Japanese Maples which have a flamboyant colour effect in late autumn. There are three waymarked paths that wind through the plots and require a moderate degree of fitnees.

How to get there:

Hemlock Walk can be started from KILMUN CARPARK in Kilmun Aboretum which is part of Argyll Forest Park. DUNOON is the nearest town or village.

There are two equally appealling approaches to the Forest Park from Glasgow. By car ferry from Gourock to Dunoon, or by the A82 along Loch Lomond through Tarbet, entering the Park at Arrochar. You then follow signs for Kilmun.

For public transport information follow the Traveline Scotland link under the Useful sites section opposite.
