(Average user rating: unrated unrated)

About Black Gates/Big Trees Walk

The Black Gates Walk serves as an introduction to a variety of mature conifer species dating back to 1870. The path climbs up to a forest road linking this route with the award winning Pucks Glen.

This trail is also accessible from the Pucks Glen car park - walk along the forest road first.

See also our pages on forests around Dunoon.

How to get there:

Black Gates/Big Trees Walk can be started from Puck's Glen car park in Benmore which is part of Argyll Forest Park. Dunoon is the nearest town or village.

There are two equally appealing approaches to the Argyll Forest Park from Glasgow.

Take the car ferry from Gourock to Dunoon entering the southern end of the Park near Pucks Glen, or take the A82 along the western shore of Loch Lomond through Tarbet, entering the northern end at Arrochar.

Follow the A82/A83/A815 to Dunoon.
