About Tarbet Loop
The Tarbet Loop starts at the Arrochar and Tarbet Railway Station. The trail is circular, climbing above Tarbet Village and through mixed woodland.
Arrochar, historically the heart of the Clan MacFarlane, nestles along the eastern shore of the head of Loch Long, where glaciers cut a great gap through the hills from Loch Lomond. Its twin settlement on Loch Lomond is Tarbet, the name meaning a portage, or literally 'drag boat'.
How to get there:
Tarbet Loop can be started from Arrochar and Tarbet Railway Station in Arrochar which is part of Argyll Forest Park. Arrochar is the nearest town or village.
Follow the M8 through Glasgow, onto the A82 along Lochlomondside towards Tarbet. Then follow the A83 to Arrochar Village.
