Ferny Knowe Walk (Red Trail)
 

You get a lot of variety on this walk. It takes you through both larch and Scots pine woodland. There are good views of the Deveron river and surrounding countryside towards Huntly. Some of the largest trees in the forest are found on this walk!

Huntly is the nearest town or village.

Mammals: Red squirrel and roe deer can be seen early morning and at dusk. We have information about Red squirrel and Roe deer

Birds: Many woodland birds can be seen, look out for the occasional crossbill flocks. Birds of prey such as buzzard, sparrowhawk and peregrine can sometimes be seen too.

Insects and reptiles: In many of the fire dams we have palmate newts.
Butterflies include Red Admirals, Meadow Browns,Scotch Argus,Mountain Ringlets and manymore.
