White Walk
The White and Red walks follow the same routes at the beginning and end, but the Red route is slightly longer.
Both start by going up the forest road and down into the old mill lade, the channel built to carry the water which powered the saw mill which used to be here.
The route continues through the deep glen of the Dhulin Burn, before climbing up to the height of the pond. Sluice gates hold back the water, originally providing power for the mill but now creating a beautiful pond for wildlife.
The White walk encircles the pond before being rejoined by the Red walk, and returns to the car park by a forest road shaded by huge conifers. The last part of this route is waymarked as a Forest Trail, and is used by cyclists and horse riders as well as walkers.
You can download a map of the trail from the 'what's of interest' panel on the right of this page.
How to get there:
White Walk can be started from Drumtochty Car Park in North Drumtochty which is part of Fetteresso Forest. Auchenblae, Glenbervie, Drumlithie, Stonehaven, Fettercairn, Laurencekirk, and Strachan are the nearest towns or villages.
If coming from Deeside, take the old Cairn O'Mount Road (B974) at Strachan, follow this road over the Cairn O'Mount, and take unclassified road to the left at the Clatterin Brig (opposite the cafe)., Follow this road for roughly 5 km and the car park is sign posted on your left.
