Red Walk

The Red walk follows the route of the White walk for most of the way, but the Red walk is slightly longer.

For the first section of the route you walk in the old mill lade itself, the channel which used to take the water to power the old saw mill. The route then follows the deep glen of the Dhulin Burn, before climbing steeply to a high point near the wildlife pond.

The Red walk then splits from the White and continues to climb for a short distance before levelling out as you walk under magnificent huge conifers and beeches, over 100 years old! The return route for both trails is down a wide forest road, shaded by more enormous trees. The last part of this route is also part of the Forest Trail, used by horse riders and cyclists as well as walkers.

You can download a map of the trail from the 'what's of interest' panel on the right of this page.

How to get there:

Red Walk can be started from Drumtochty Car Park in North Drumtochty which is part of Fetteresso Forest. Auchenblae, Glenbervie, Drumlithie, Stonehaven, Fettercairn, Laurencekirk, and Strachan are the nearest towns or villages.

If coming from Deeside, take the old Cairn O'Mount Road (B974) at Strachan, follow this road over the Cairn O'Mount, and take unclassified road to the left at the Clatterin Brig (opposite the cafe)., Follow this road for roughly 5 km and the car park is sign posted on your left.
