Scolty to Shooting Greens Trail

This waymarked route is on good quality forest roads all the way. You can go from Scolty through the forest to Shooting Greens at the westend of Blackhall, or you can do a slightly longer circular loop that brings you back to Scolty.
There are excellent views over Deeside and Feuchside and to the hills beyond.

Who is it for?

This longer route is suitable for cyclists, horse riders, walkers and runners. Some of the slopes may be too long for younger children to cycle, but there are only a few really steep sections. Part of the forest trail is also a waymarked walk.

We ask users to show consideration for each other, and to remember that this is a working forest and vehicles may be using the forest roads at any time.

You can download a map of the trail from the 'what's of interest' panel on the right of this page.

How to get there:

Scolty to Shooting Greens Trail can be started from Scolty Car Park in Scolty Woodland Park which is part of Blackhall Forest. Auchattie, Banchory, and Strachan are the nearest towns or villages.

The car park is roughly 1.75 km from the traffic lights in Banchory. Take the B976 south at the traffic lights, cross over the River Dee, take the first public road to the right, then the next public road to the left. Near the top of the hill turn right along a track past the Scolty sign board, and take the next track to the right again past another sign board. The car park is on your left roughly 30m along this track.
