Scolty Hill Walk

This trail leads you to Scolty Tower on top of Scolty Hill. This monument was to General Burnett, and it has a spiral staircase inside it leading up to the top of the tower and a tremendous view. Don't be concerned it you don't like heights though - the view from Scolty Hill alone is special, a real panorama of the surrounding countryside.

The section within the woodland is on forest road, but the open hill section is steep and rough in places - well worth the effort on a clear day though!

You can download a map of the trail from the 'what's of interest' panel on the right of this page.

How to get there:

Scolty Hill Walk can be started from Scolty Car Park in Scolty Woodland Park which is part of Blackhall Forest. Auchattie, Banchory, and Strachan are the nearest towns or villages.

The car park is roughly 1.75 km from the traffic lights in Banchory. Take the B976 south at the traffic lights, cross over the River Dee, take the first public road to the right, then the next public road to the left. Near the top of the hill turn right along a track past the Scolty sign board, and take the next track to the right again past another sign board. The car park is on your left roughly 30m along this track.
